Area Mechanic



Job Description:

Area Mechanic conducts maintenance services and maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery. This is a senior level position with exposure to electrical including PLCs, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.


Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Cooperate with Department Engineer on continuous improvement and lean

  • manufacturing projects.

  • Assist in creating, reviewing and implementing maintenance schedules, and various operational documents which includes standard operating procedures, standard work, checklists and shift transition reports.

  • Audit daily logs to ensure startup and shutdown times, equipment adjustments and maintenance log is recorded by the team.

  • Complete daily shift transition and maintenance reports for an effective communication with the production team.

  • Ensure all set-up sheets are created for each product/job, and setups are completed according to the setup checklist, meeting quick changeover targets.

  • Ensure assigned tool checks are completed in a timely manner.

  • Locate sources of major breakdowns by observing electrical including PLCs, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and correct the issues using troubleshooting guidelines.

  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using power tools, hoists and hand tools.

  • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

  • Repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

  • Maintain equipment, parts, tooling and supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, and source replacement parts for repairs.

  • Control downtime by informing production team of routine preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Provide maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

  • Prepare maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

  • Perform planned and preventive maintenance using computer maintenance management software (CMMS).

  • Ensure operation of machinery by completing preventive maintenance requirements on equipment; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.

  • Maintain electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical knowledge by attending educational workshops, and reviewing technical publications.

  • Train High Performance Work Teams on setups, quick changeovers, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Ensure proper installation of new equipment and machinery.

  • Contribute to engineering team with early equipment designs, automation and procurement of new equipment and machinery.

  • Perform various important tasks as required by production team in the absence of Line Technicians.

  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Ensure correct and safe operation of equipment and machinery by following OEM guidelines and OSHA regulations.

  • Facilitate daily production huddles, and actively participate in the weekly operation meetings.

  • Assist the Area Leader in evaluating the competencies of Line Technicians on a quarterly basis.

  • Expert in Redzone productivity and compliance modules.

  • Support an atmosphere of trust, and business awareness.

  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years industrial maintenance or heavy equipment experience required.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Advanced technical or college training preferred.

  • Advanced understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanics.

  • Basic understanding of electrical including PLCs and electro-mechanical systems.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Power Point and Excel.

  • Capable of operating hand, power and specialized tools.

  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Team player and willing to work with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Must speak and write English fluently, Spanish a plus.


Physical requirements & Working conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to loud noise created by moving mechanical parts and vibration. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type/Expected hours of work

This is a full-time position. Hours of work will vary according to the shift timings, 40 hours per week.
